The requirements
Following a number of key acquisitions alongside sustained organic growth, Gamma has grown from 200 to 1000 staff in a relatively short space of time. As the size and complexity of solutions increased in the Gamma ‘Direct’ organisation, so did the need to improve the quality of their professional services. The business wanted to assess the capabilities of their project management team and gain a clear and impartial understanding of their strengths and development areas, bench marked against industry best practice. Following completion of the assessments the team would then be provided with suitable training to develop their skills facilitating a high-quality and frictionless solution delivery service to customers.
The solution
Gamma opted to assess their ten project managers through a combination of Provek’s PMA full assessment and Scored CV.
PMA requires individuals to answer 120 questions on their experience, knowledge, situation decision-making and behaviour indicator questions. It answers the questions
- How do your project managers compare to the industry?
- Where are their collective strengths and weaknesses?
- What specific topics need developing and for which project managers?
Scored CV requests the role, achievements, and complexity of three programmes or projects that the project professional has worked on across multiple dimensions requested (e.g. budget, team size, team complexity, overall risk). A summary of their project career history is obtained as well as their views on their own key skills.
The results
Following completion of the PMA and Scored CV assessments, a detailed management report was provided to Gamma. The two inputs from both PMA with Scored CV provided comprehensive profiling, both at a team and individual level.
The report provided key findings where the team exceeded industry averages and where development was required, which could be achieved both through off-the-job classroom training and through on-the-job development activities.
Gamma has since successfully obtained PFQ qualifications for 12/12 delegates sitting an in-house Provek run course, and have 4 further members of the team booked to complete PMQ training in the near future. They are also exploring soft skills training and career development opportunities to address knowledge gaps identified through the bench marking exercise.
