Course overview

Provek is an accredited training organisation for delivering face-to-face and virtual classroom MSP® based courses. Successfully completing a MSP® examination enables the individual to achieve an internationally recognised qualification. The MSP® Foundation and Practitioner courses are aligned to meet the current MSP 5th edition framework.

Course specification

Who should attend:

Learners typically have some pre-existing project and programme management knowledge, and it is the ideal next step for anyone moving into a programme role. It is intended for:

  • Programme managers and aspiring programme managers
  • Project managers/senior project managers
  • Business change managers
  • Other key staff involved in the design, development and delivery of projects or programmes
  • Operational line managers/staff (e.g. process owners) operating within a programme environment
  • Portfolio management staff
  • Specialist programme staff
Duration:

Public courses are delivered as virtual tutor-led classroom. In-house courses can be delivered virtually or face-to-face classroom:

MSP Foundation: three days with recommended minimum of five hours pre-study time required.

MSP Practitioner: one day with recommended six to eight hours pre-study time required.

Timings:

MSP Foundation: 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. each day

MSP Practitioner: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Examination:

MSP Foundation and Practitioner exams are taken remotely.

MSP Foundation is a one-hour, 60 question multiple choice closed book exam. The pass mark is 60% (36/60) or higher.

MSP Practitioner is a two-and-a-half-hour multiple choice open book exam. There are 58 questions per paper (including 6 matching questions worth 3 marks each). The pass mark is 60% (42/70) or higher.

Delegates will be emailed an exam ‘voucher’ upon confirmation of the course so that they can book their exam. Provek recommend that delegates book their Foundation exam the day after completing the 1-day Practitioner course, and the Practitioner exam approx. 4 days later.

Venues:

Face-to-face training is held at the client selected venue.

Virtual classroom training is delivered using Zoom interactive video conferencing which allows you to learn using a powerful combination of video, virtual whiteboards and breakout rooms for small-group exercises.  It simulates very closely a classroom learning environment but with the advantage of geographic flexibility and zero travel costs.

Access to Zoom is provided by Provek, participants do not need to purchase Zoom.

Dates and Prices:

MSP Foundation public virtual three-day course: £1,445 (includes MSP hard copy manual and exam).

MSP Practitioner public virtual one-day course: £749 (excludes MSP manual, includes exam).

Course style:

Theory and practical case study work, delivered by a trainer who has practical experience of both project and programme management, will lead the delegates through the MSP framework and will work towards the final examinations using sample questions. Pre-course preparation material consisting of the MSP Manual and workbook ensures delegates are prepared for, and gain the maximum benefit from the workshop.  Delegates will be required to do evening work during the week that the course is taking place

Pre-requisites:

MSP Foundation: Delegates should be already working in a programme environment but no prior knowledge of the MSP method will be required.

MSP Practitioner: MSP Foundation is required to sit the MSP Practitioner exam.

PRINCE2® Practitioner qualification is also an advantage.

AXELOS’s MSP Manual and Provek’s MSP pre-study guide. Recommended minimum of:

  • five hours pre-course study time required (Foundation)
  • six to eight hours pre-study time required (Practitioner).

Learning outcomes

The MSP Foundation Examination is intended to assess whether the candidate can demonstrate sufficient recall and understanding of the MSP programme management framework.

The MSP Practitioner Examination assesses the ability to apply understanding of the MSP programme management framework in context.
