What is APM Training?

The Association for Project Management (APM) is the chartered professional body for project management within the UK. Setting standards and developing the sector, APM unites more than 35,000 individual members and 450 corporate members.

An APM project management course develops an understanding of best practice methodologies promoted by the Association for Project Management and our accredited courses enable delegates to obtain valuable skills and achieve industry-recognised qualifications including APM PFQ, PMQ, PPQ, ChPP and Risk Level 1&2.

What Type of APM Project Management Training Is Right for You?

When deciding what type of APM project management training to undertake it can be helpful to benchmark your skills and experience against industry expectations.  Provek offers our (free-to-use) PMALite skills assessment that will provide you with a personal report that identifies your development gaps and recommends the relevant APM qualification, helping to support you in developing as a project manager and your career progression.

The APM career pathway of qualifications consists of the Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ), Project Management Qualification (PMQ), Project Professional Qualification (PPQ) and Chartered Project Professional (ChPP).

  • The APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) is ideal for professionals who are just starting out in project management, providing a high-level overview of the project lifecycle and a fundamental awareness of project management terminology.
  • The APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) is aimed at those with 12 months or more experience in managing projects and provides an in-depth level of project management knowledge sufficient to participate in projects from individual assignments through to large capital projects.
  • The APM Project Professional Qualification (PPQ) draws on a candidate’s existing skills developed through experience, supported by their theory and study. Covering the core and specific competencies project professionals require across all areas of the profession, PPQ is the most comprehensive assessment of professional project management capability available.
  • Chartered (ChPP) is a benchmark of professional project practice, providing independent recognition of your proven capabilities. It allows holders to demonstrate responsible leadership and the competencies necessary for effective project, programme or portfolio management – including the ability to manage a complex project and ability to use appropriate tools, processes and techniques.

Provek offers a range of flexible individual and corporate training options, including online study through our PM Channel video platform, virtual public courses, specialist coaching (PPQ and ChPP) and in-house virtual and face-to-face courses.

Bespoke APM Project Management Training

In addition to running accredited APM courses, Provek offers bespoke training solutions for businesses that have specific training requirements.

Provek can tailor courses to focus on specific skills, deliver a course over a longer period in modules, add tailored exercises based on organisation-specific case studies, to enhance relevance of exercises to provide practical experience. Inhouse courses also provide the flexibility of delivery dates and face-to-face delivery, virtual or a hybrid.

As part of our approach to provide in-house training, we will seek to understand your business challenges, assess your employees to identify key skills gaps and work with you to provide targeted training that will have a positive impact on your project delivery. Perhaps you want to train multiple staff members at once or introduce best practice APM project lifecycle concepts to enhance the knowledge of your project management team? Maybe you want to formalise the project management skills your employees already have and give them an opportunity to advance their careers? Whatever your goals, our corporate in-house delivery and bespoke training solutions can support you to increase your workforce ROI and integrate effective project management into your day-to-day operations.

Deciding What to Study

For anyone building a career in the project management industry, an APM project management qualification is a valuable asset. Our APM accredited courses provide essential knowledge and skills, leading to an APM qualification that is internationally recognised and well regarded across industry sectors.

Many project management professionals choose to study the PFQ, PMQ and PPQ in consecutive order. which are equivalent to Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) levels 3, 4 and 6 respectively.

However, there are times when a full course, such as the APM PMQ, isn’t required. If you want to learn more about a specific topic, such as risk management, earned value management or project planning, then one of our topic-based training courses or our specialist support may be what you’re looking for.

Why Study Project Management?

Whilst Project Management is professionalism in its own right, it offers a core set of skills that are valuable to all professions within industry. Project management develops essential business skills, including leadership and communication, governance, planning, risk management, estimating, budgeting and cost control, procurement and quality assurance.

Where businesses wish to innovate, develop new products and services or drive change, skilled project managers can be the difference between commercial success and failure, and meeting client or customer expectations.

Project managers are effective in identifying potential risks before they arise, mitigating their impact and implementing cost-effective solutions to ensure project success.

For individuals, enhancing their project management knowledge, broadening their skillset, and formalising their learnings via qualifications can increase their employability and boost their value.
